About Us

Established in 1989, Barton & Williams School of Dance has been providing a caring atmosphere for quality dance instruction for over 30 years, distinguishing us as the longest-running dance studio in Stafford County, Virginia. Owners Teresa Barton and Jan Williams have developed a multi-faceted program which includes classes for dancers of all ages and levels of ability, and have fostered a sense of community between the administrative and teaching staff, students and their families.

From creative movement preschool-aged dancers to the most advanced pre-professional students, classes are offered by our well-qualified staff that will appeal to all who are interested in learning the art of dance. For the youngest dancers there are preschool creative movement and hip-hop classes, as well as classes that combine dance styles. Classical ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap and hip-hop are offered for all levels for students 8 years and older. Annual auditions are held for more experienced dancers interested in the performing and competition groups known as the B&W Company Dancers. For adults there are popular tap, yoga, and fitness classes, rounding out the movement options offered for the whole family.

Our staff participates in dance teacher workshops/classes to keep up to date with the latest dance trends, and for their continuing education in the art of dance. Students and staff alike participate in various dance workshops and intensives held in the DC metropolitan area, and the studio also sponsors specialty and master classes, especially during our summer dance program. Our pre-professional dancers have gone on to study with the Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Kirov Ballet and Kennedy Center dance programs. Many of our B&W alumni have gone on to perform professionally for dance companies, Broadway shows, cruise lines and in feature films and television.

All students participate in B&W’s much anticipated annual production, complete with storyline characters, sets, costumes and a well-deserved opportunity for all dancers to showcase what they’ve learned over the course of the past dance year. These professional quality shows are always met with rave reviews, as they are not your typical dance recital. This performance opportunity is an invaluable experience our dancers and their families will remember and enjoy for years to come.

We are proud to share our love of dance with the many Stafford and surrounding area families who have made Barton & Williams School of Dance a part of their lives for over 20 years. We will continue to offer professional dance instruction wit

h a sense of care and community, offering thanks to all who have helped us along the way.
